BURN BUILDING

The Rifle Fire Protection District's Burn Tower is a multi-use steel structure design by Fire Facilities of Antioch, Illinois.  It is a four-story building with an attached first floor burn room and a burn area located on the second floor.

Only Class A combustibles are used in the structure.

The tower meets the requirements for Colorado State Certification in Live Fire Testing.  Each burn area is monitored with thermo-coupling for use in fire behavior instruction and protection of the structure.

A smoke dispersal system is installed on all floors for smoke drills.

The tower is fully sprinklered (dry) for demonstration, additional safety and instruction.  In addition, with the exception of the attic and roof area, each floor is equipped with a dry standpipe system.  A combination FDC is used for the fire protection systems.

All Live Fire training exercises are conducted according to NFPA 1403.  Props inside the structure are only limited to the imagination, ingenuity and safety of the users. The tower can also be used for rescue and law enforcement tactical purposes. High angle rescue can be accomplished by using the inside supports of the structure (red steel) or the roof rappelling rings.

Total height of the building is 34 feet. Night-time drills are allowed. Download the Burn Building Policies document.
